Product Description The first motion lamp was designed in 1963 by an English engineer, Edward Craven Walker, who sold it under the name Astro Lamp. That lucky guy found that by mixing a little of this and a little of that, you get a uniquely hypnotic light, which has made Lava Lamps a worldwide phenomenon. In 1965, two American entrepreneurs saw the lamp displayed at a German trade show and were in awe at its beauty. They bought the rights to manufacture the lamp in North America. The Astro Lamp was brought to the USA, renamed the Lava Lamp and production took off in Chicago. From haphazard invention to cultural icon, Lava Lamps have held a place in the hearts of generation after generation. To this day, Lava Lite LLC is the only manufacturer of the the original shape of cool - the Lava Lamp. In the mid-sixties, Lava Lite invited a generation to turn on (their Lava Lamps), tune in, and drop out. Through the 90's and into today, Lava Lamps continue to prove that the primordial ooze that once ruled our world has been captured in perpetual motion. | Customer Reviews: How can you not love a Lava Lamp? June 8, 2010 James Markham (Las Vegas, NV USA) I really like the atmosphere created by a Lava Lamp, and I've had one almost consistently since I was in high school in the '60s. I placed my last one in a spot where the sunlight hit it, and it bleached all of the color out of the water. I re-ordered the same silver/blue lamp that I had before.
Ok for the price February 3, 2010 Rachel Meyers (Houston, TX) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this as a present for my boyfriend and the lightbulb did not work so we had to go buy a new one. But, once we got it working it worked pretty good. For some reason the liquid doesnt' seem to move around as much as most lava lamps the stuff kind of sits at the top. But,that could also be because of the different bulb I had to buy.
